Winners of Youth Banner ProjectGreencastle Arts Council presented four local youth artists with banners that displayed their designs on light poles around the Putnam County Courthouse and adjacent street. “We ART Putnam County” Banner Campaign kicked off on February 9th and concluded with a celebration event honoring all those who sponsored, contributed and worked toward this project. Students were encouraged to create a design that represents their own community and would promote tourism within the county. The judges selected one winning design from each middle school that represented various attractions within Putnam County. In all, 84 entries were received. Representing North Putnam Middle School is Heath Livingston, and his design of “Silos and Corn”. Representing Greencastle Middle School is Liz Kavanaugh and her design of “Four Arches, Covered Bridge and Peony”. Representing South Putnam Middle School is Logan Hamm and his design of “Buzz Bomb”. Representing Cloverdale Middle School is Ryanne Clark and her design of “Skate Park”.
“This project was the work of many people within our county,” said Rachel Curtis, GAC Board Member and chair of the project. “When we collaborate together on projects like this, we all gain a sense of pride within our community. It’s a wonderful way to support the talents of our local youth by showcasing their designs for the public to view.” The banners will be on display throughout the summer. The Greencastle Arts Council would like to thank the Putnam County Community Foundation who sponsored the light pole banner project, and the Putnam County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Tri Kappa for sponsoring the over-the street banners. Without the collaboration of these sponsors, this project would not be possible.
